In the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales," the protagonist, Josey Wales (played by Clint Eastwood), is a peaceful farmer living in Missouri during the Civil War era. Tragedy strikes when his family is brutally murdered by a group of Union soldiers led by Captain Terrill. Consumed by revenge, Josey joins a Confederate guerrilla group, known as the Missouri Bushwhackers, seeking justice for his family's death.

As the war ends, Josey's band disbands, but he refuses to surrender and become a prisoner. Now a renegade outlaw, he becomes the target of a manhunt launched by Captain Terrill and his group of soldiers, who are intent on bringing him to justice. Preferring a solitary life, Josey continuously evades capture by skillfully outmaneuvering the soldiers pursuing him.

However, along the way, Josey unintentionally accumulates a motley crew of like-minded outcasts who are drawn to his charismatic leadership and unwavering sense of justice. This diverse group includes a young Navajo warrior named Lone Watie (portrayed by Chief Dan George), a former Confederate soldier named Jamie (played by Sam Bottoms), a spirited young woman named Laura Lee (Sondra Locke), and several others.

As Josey and his companions navigate the treacherous landscapes of the American West, they encounter various challenges and conflicts, including confrontations with ruthless bounty hunters, Native American tribes, and even earning a price on their heads. Despite his initial intention of traveling alone, Josey develops a deep bond with his newfound comrades and begins to view them as family.

As they journey together, Josey realizes that his quest for vengeance may also involve the wider fight against injustice and oppression. Thus, he resolves not only to protect his own circle of outcasts but also to confront the systemic corruption and cruelty plaguing the war-torn postbellum society.

"The Outlaw Josey Wales" is filled with intense gunfights, memorable dialogues, and powerful character development. Themes of redemption, loyalty, and the search for belonging permeate the narrative as Josey Wales embarks on a cathartic journey, finding solace and purpose amidst the chaos and violence of the era.
