In the movie "The Scoundrels," Rui is a former famous basketball player who experienced a downfall and now works as a street-parking fee collector. He also occasionally takes jobs from a car theft gang to make ends meet.

One night, as Rui goes about his usual routine, a robber hijacks him after noticing that he accidentally spotted a seriously injured woman in the vehicle. Rui's attempts to explain the situation are in vain as the robber refuses to let him go and forces him to accompany him during his escape.

Meanwhile, news of a recent bank robbery spreads, and the police and the public quickly become convinced that Rui is the suspect. The evidence and circumstances seem to incriminate him, leaving him in a difficult predicament.

As Rui and the robber continue their journey while evading the authorities, Rui's only hope of clearing his name lies with the unconscious woman he discovered in the stolen car. However, she remains unresponsive, leaving him frustrated and desperate.
