The Thing from Another World, released in 1951, is a science fiction horror film based on the novella "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell Jr. Here are some more plot details:

The story is set at a remote United States Air Force outpost in the Arctic Circle. A team of scientists, led by Dr. Carrington, is conducting research when they discover a crashed unidentified flying object buried in the ice. They call in the nearby U.S. military base for assistance.

A group comprising of military personnel, including Captain Patrick Hendry, joined by Dr. Carrington and other scientists, investigate the crashed object and find a frozen extraterrestrial creature buried in the ice. They extract the alien and take it back to their base for study. However, during the extraction, one of the scientists accidentally destroys the creature with a thermite charge, which means they cannot fully analyze it.

The team preserves a severed arm of the creature and continues their research, quickly realizing that the alien organism has the ability to absorb and imitate other life forms. As the scientists conduct their experiments and observation, they soon come to recognize the threat they are facing. The alien being, which they dub the "Thing," starts to thaw and begins absorbing and imitating the humans at the base.

Paranoia and fear start to grip the outpost as the team realizes that anyone among them could be the creature in disguise. A series of mysterious incidents and disappearances occur, further heightening the tension and suspicion among the remaining crew members. Dr. Carrington becomes increasingly fascinated with the creature and believes it may be misunderstood or even superior to humans, leading to a divide among the scientific and military personnel.

Captain Hendry and a few remaining individuals, including Nikki Nicholson, a journalist at the base, and a fellow pilot, attempt to destroy the Thing before it escapes and potentially poses a greater threat to humanity. They engage in a battle against the creature, employing various tactics and weapons, fighting for their lives and the survival of the human race.

In a tense climax, the survivors manage to destroy the creature, sacrificing the outpost in the process. The film ends with Hendry, Nikki, and others watching the burning remains of the outpost, knowing that the Thing has been eradicated but uncertain about whether they can fully trust each other.

The Thing from Another World is considered a classic science fiction film and has been remade twice, once as The Thing in 1982, directed by John Carpenter, and again as The Thing in 2011, serving as a prequel to Carpenter's version.
