Dr. Stephen Strange, a renowned and highly skilled neurosurgeon, is involved in a tragic car accident that irreparably damages his hands, rendering him unable to perform surgery. Desperate to find a way to restore his former life, he exhausts all traditional medical options but fails to regain the use of his hands.
In his search for a cure, Strange learns about a mystical community called Kamar-Taj, hidden away in Nepal. Intrigued, he travels there and encounters the Ancient One, a powerful sorcerer who guards Earth from mystical threats. Initially skeptical, Strange is forced to confront the existence of magic and the multiverse when the Ancient One shows him other dimensions and introduces him to the idea of harnessing cosmic energy.
Although initially drawn to the study of sorcery for his own selfish purposes, Strange soon realizes the greater responsibility he has in protecting the world from threats he had never before imagined. Under the tutelage of the Ancient One and her faithful disciple Mordo, he begins his arduous training in the mystic arts.
Over time, Strange learns to manipulate energy and time, gaining incredible mystical abilities. Along with his newfound ally, fellow sorcerer Wong, he discovers the existence of Kaecilius, a former student of the Ancient One who has turned to dark magic. Kaecilius seeks to harness the power of an ancient artifact known as the Dark Dimension, which would give him immortality and grant Dormammu, a powerful cosmic entity, unrestricted entry into Earth.
Unbeknownst to his mentors, Strange secretly continues his studies, delving into forbidden texts and experimenting with dangerous magical artifacts. In doing so, he harnesses the power of the Eye of Agamotto, an artifact housing an Infinity Stone, which enables him to manipulate time itself. With this newfound power, Strange gains the ability to alter events and confront Kaecilius and his zealots.
A climactic battle ensues, as Strange confronts Kaecilius and his followers in the Mirror Dimension, a realm where reality is fluid and collapsible. Using his intelligence and tactical thinking, Strange defeats Kaecilius and prevents the complete opening of the Dark Dimension. However, Strange realizes that the battle against dark forces has only just begun.
In a post-credits scene, Strange converses with Thor, another hero from Earth, who warns him of an imminent threat posed by his brother Loki. This sets the stage for future collaborations and adventures as Doctor Strange embraces his role as Earth's defender against supernatural threats.
