In Independence Day: Resurgence, the story takes place twenty years after the events of the first movie, Independence Day. Humanity has used the technology salvaged from the initial alien invasion to advance their own technology significantly and has established a global defense system.
However, despite the preparation, a new, more powerful alien force returns to Earth with the intention of finishing what they started. Led by a powerful and enigmatic queen, they begin to attack major cities around the world, causing widespread destruction and chaos. This new alien species is more advanced and formidable than ever before, posing an unprecedented threat to the human race.
Facing the greatest danger they have ever encountered, a group of courageous individuals from various countries come together to fight back. Among them are familiar faces from the first movie, such as David Levinson (played by Jeff Goldblum), who is now the director of the Earth Space Defense (ESD), and former President Whitmore (played by Bill Pullman), who is haunted by psychic visions of the upcoming invasion.
