Drama   United States of America

"Adrift in Manhattan" follows the intertwined lives of three strangers who find themselves on a transformative journey while commuting on New York's 1 and 9 subway lines.

The first character is Rose Phipps (played by Heather Graham), a 42-year-old optometrist who has recently lost her son and is struggling to come to terms with her grief. To cope with her pain, she becomes obsessively fixated on photographing people's eyes, capturing their emotions without their knowledge. While on the subway, she notices a mysterious man, Simon (played by Victor Rasuk), who becomes her unwitting muse. As Rose finds solace in her art, she also discovers a growing attraction towards Simon, which further complicates her already fragile emotional state.

The second character is Tomasso (played by Dominic Chianese), an elderly painter who is losing his sight due to degenerative eye disease. Living alone and haunted by memories of his past, Tomasso feels increasingly isolated as his ability to create art diminishes. On the subway, he encounters a young and beautiful woman named Carolina (played by Elizabeth Peña), who works as a makeup artist. Drawn to her vibrant energy and youthful spirit, Tomasso finds himself yearning for a connection.

The third character is Simon, a young Hispanic man who works at his father's laundry shop. He leads a quiet and monotonous life until he meets Rose, who unknowingly becomes the subject of his own secret photography project. As Simon observes Rose's pain and loneliness through his lens, he also begins to confront his own emotional struggles, particularly his complex relationship with his father.

As the lives of Rose, Tomasso, and Simon intersect on the subway, their encounters and relationships with one another serve as catalysts for personal growth and healing. Through their shared experiences, they each confront their own fears, confront their past trauma, and find ways to connect with others on a deeper level. "Adrift in Manhattan" explores themes of grief, loneliness, and the power of human connection in the bustling and diverse city of New York.
