In the movie "Always," Pete Sandich is a fearless and thrill-seeking pilot who works as a firefighter, known as a "smokejumper," specializing in putting out forest fires. However, during what was supposed to be his last mission before retiring, Pete's plane crashes and he tragically dies.
After his death, Pete ascends to Heaven and is introduced to a no-nonsense angel named Hap. Hap informs Pete that he has been chosen to become a guardian angel and pass on his vast aviation knowledge to a young pilot named Ted Baker.
