In the movie "The Young Savages," the district attorney named Hank Bell (played by Burt Lancaster) is assigned to investigate a racially charged case involving the murder of a blind Puerto Rican boy. The victim, Miguel Escobar, was brutally stabbed while walking home from school.

The three accused teenagers, Danny di Pinto (played by John Davis Chandler), Anthony 'Tony' Reardon (played by Neil Nephew), and 'Baby' Sal Mineo (played by John 'J.P.' Ryan), are from a predominantly white neighborhood. The murder brings to the surface deep-seated racial tensions between the Italian-American and Puerto Rican communities in New York.

As the investigation progresses, Bell starts to uncover disturbing details about the events leading up to Miguel's murder. It is revealed that there was a fight between Danny and Miguel, which escalated into a racial conflict. The prosecution argues that the three teenagers attacked Miguel out of racial hatred, while the defense claims it was a case of self-defense.

Throughout the film, Hank Bell struggles with his own biases and prejudices as he seeks justice for Miguel. He faces opposition from both sides of the community, as well as from within his own office. Bell’s personal connections with the neighborhood and his reputation as a tough prosecutor complicate his objectivity, raising questions about whether the truth will prevail.

As the trial unfolds, evidence surfaces that challenges the initial narrative. Bell realizes that the truth is more complex than it initially appeared. He becomes determined to uncover the real motives behind the murder, seeking justice for both the victim and the accused.

The Young Savages explores the themes of racial prejudice, justice, and the complexities of human nature. It showcases the difficult task faced by a district attorney trying to navigate a racially charged case, portraying the impact of biases and the search for truth in a divided society.
