After Greg decides to propose to Pam, he plans on introducing himself to her parents during her sister's wedding weekend. However, things quickly start going wrong for him. On his way to the airport, Greg's bag containing the engagement ring is accidentally switched with another passenger's bag. This prompts Greg to buy a cheaper replacement ring once he arrives at his destination.
When Greg meets Pam's family, he quickly realizes that her father, Jack, is an intimidating and overprotective former CIA agent. Greg's efforts to impress Jack continuously backfire, starting with his mistaken identity as a male nurse. As the weekend progresses, Greg faces one disaster after another, including accidentally breaking a valuable family urn, starting a fire while cooking, and unsuccessfully attempting to display his prowess in a game of volleyball.
