In the movie "Romance on the High Seas," Georgia Garrett, portrayed by Doris Day, is a talented singer who dreams of having a successful career in show business. One day, she auditions to perform on a luxurious ocean cruise ship, but is initially rejected. However, Georgia's luck changes when the famous singer, Elvira Kent, becomes unable to embark on the cruise due to a sudden illness. Elvira's husband, Michael Kent, is determined to find out if she is being unfaithful, so he hires a private detective named Peter Virgil to join the cruise and catch her in the act.

When Elvira learns of her husband's suspicions, she decides to secretly stay home while sending Georgia in her place to masquerade as herself. Meanwhile, Michael also arranges for a cabaret singer named Rosita to seduce him in order to test Elvira's fidelity. However, things become incredibly complicated when Peter mistakenly believes that Georgia is Elvira, leading to confusion and romantic entanglements.

As the cruise progresses, Georgia finds herself falling in love with Michael while also trying to maintain her disguise. Likewise, Michael becomes increasingly attracted to Georgia, oblivious to the fact that she isn't actually his wife. At the same time, Rosita, the cabaret singer, falls for Peter, causing even more comedic complications.

Amidst the misunderstandings and romantic confusion, several musical numbers are performed on the cruise ship, showcasing Doris Day's incredible vocal talents. The songs add to the fun and lightheartedness of the film, as the characters navigate their tangled relationships and try to resolve the misunderstandings. Ultimately, the truth is revealed, and the characters are forced to confront their feelings and make decisions about their future relationships. In the end, love triumphs, and the characters find their happily ever afters.
