In the movie "Chinese Roulette," the husband and wife, Gerhard and Ariane Christ, have been drifting apart, and their marriage is on shaky ground. Feeling trapped in their relationship, they both decide to engage in secret extramarital affairs.

Gerhard starts seeing Irene, a young and beautiful woman, while Ariane starts a relationship with Kolbe, who happens to be the chauffeur of the family. To keep their affairs hidden, Gerhard and Ariane decide to lie to each other about their weekend travel plans. Gerhard tells Ariane that he has a business trip, while Ariane says she has a weekend conference.

Unknown to both of them, their daughter, Angela, overheard their plans and decides to independently arrange a secret meetup at their family's secluded country house during the same weekend. Angela is paralyzed and spends most of her time in a wheelchair, which adds to the complexity of the situation.

The weekend arrives, and both Gerhard and Ariane arrive separately at the family's country house with their lovers, Irene and Kolbe. To their shock and dismay, they find Angela already present along with her nanny, Traunitz. Angela, unaware that her parents had planned separate trips, had invited Traunitz to accompany her to the house, hoping for some company.

As tensions rise and secrets begin to unravel, the tangled web of relationships gets further complicated. Gerhard becomes increasingly jealous of Irene's flirtatious nature and is infuriated by Ariane's affair with Kolbe, while Ariane struggles to maintain her composure amidst the mounting deceit.

Meanwhile, Angela decides to play a dangerous game, which gives the movie its name. She proposes a twisted variation of Russian Roulette, dubbed Chinese Roulette, played with words rather than guns. The game involves each person revealing a deeply personal secret, leading to increasingly explosive revelations.

As the game continues, the characters' emotional walls crumble, and the truth behind their deceptions slowly emerges. Bitterness, resentment, and hidden desires clash in a suspenseful and psychologically gripping climax that challenges the boundaries of trust and love.

"Chinese Roulette" explores themes of betrayal, the fragmentation of family, and the consequences of deceit in relationships. Directed by the renowned German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the movie delves into the complexities of human emotions and the destructive power of secrets.
