Drama   United States of America

In the movie Rosewater, Maziar Bahari, an Iranian Canadian journalist, is sent to Iran to cover the country's presidential elections in 2009. Bahari is one of the few reporters in the country with access to foreign media, and during his time there, he appears on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in a satirical interview. However, the Tehran authorities don't understand the humor and take offense.

Shortly after his interview, Bahari is captured by Iranian authorities and forcibly taken from his family home. He is accused of being a spy and is subjected to months of imprisonment and brutal interrogation. Throughout his time in captivity, Bahari struggles to maintain his hope and sanity.

To cope with the isolation and persecution, Bahari finds solace in various ways. He reminisces about his family and recalls memories of the music he loves. He also thinks about his wife, who is pregnant with their first child, and this gives him strength to endure the hardships he faces.

As Bahari endures physical and psychological torture, he develops a bond with one of his captors, who is referred to as "Rosewater" due to his distinctive scent. This captor shows moments of compassion towards Bahari and even questions the validity of his imprisonment.

The film portrays Bahari's determination to survive the ordeal and reveals the power of his resilience and refusal to succumb to despair. Ultimately, Rosewater highlights the importance of freedom of the press and the human spirit's ability to find hope even in the darkest of circumstances.
