In the movie "Return of the Fly," Philippe Delambre, the son of the original scientist André Delambre, is determined to pick up where his father left off with his matter transmission experiments. Philippe and his uncle François continue the research and build their own matter transportation device in secret.

Their experiments take a disastrous turn when a rival scientist named Max Barthold sabotages the device. Unaware of the deliberate tampering, Philippe decides to test the machine on himself, believing he will finally succeed where his father failed. However, unbeknownst to him, a fly enters the transporter with him at the last moment.

When Philippe emerges from the other end of the process, he has been grotesquely fused with the fly. Horrified by his transformation into a hideous hybrid creature, Philippe hides his new appearance with the help of a special cloth.

Determined to reverse the transformation, Philippe seeks revenge on those he believes responsible for his plight, especially Max Barthold. Alongside his uncle François, who also discovers the truth, Philippe plots to expose Max's sabotage and restore his own humanity.

As Philippe's vendetta unfolds, he encounters resistance from both his loved ones and law enforcement. He struggles to maintain control over his mutated instincts and gruesome physical changes. The film explores Philippe's inner turmoil while also showcasing the consequences of his actions as the events intensify.

Eventually, François and Philippe realize that the only way to reverse the terrible transformation is to utilize the remaining functioning matter transmission device. Philippe decides to transmit his melded body with the fly back through the transporter, hoping to separate their physical forms and regain his human appearance.

In a climactic and dramatic ending, Philippe sacrifices himself, successfully detaching his body from the fly, but unfortunately losing his life in the process. François and the others witness Philippe's final moments, realizing the tragedy of his ambition and experimentation.

"Return of the Fly" delves into themes of obsession, the consequences of playing God, and the struggle to contain one's own monstrous nature. It serves as a cautionary tale and continuation of the tragic legacy surrounding the matter transmission experiments started by Philippe's father.
