The Ox-Bow Incident is a 1943 Western film based on the novel of the same name by Walter Van Tilburg Clark. The story takes place in 1885 and follows the two main characters, Gil Carter (played by Henry Fonda) and Art Croft (played by Harry Morgan), as they ride into the town of Bridger's Wells and become caught up in the hunt for the cattle thieves.

As the posse sets out to find the rustlers, tensions rise among the townspeople, and rumors spread about the identity of the culprits. While some believe in the need for justice and the rule of law, others are quick to resort to violence and vigilante justice.

The situation becomes increasingly volatile when news of a recent murder spreads, leading the posse to believe they are pursuing the killers. As they close in on a group of men who fit the description of the fugitives, the members of the posse must grapple with their own moral and ethical dilemmas.

The film delves into themes of mob mentality, prejudice, and the nature of justice as the posse debates what to do with the captured men. The decision they ultimately make has profound and tragic consequences, forcing the characters and the audience to confront the complexities of human nature and the pursuit of justice.
