That Was Then... This Is Now is a coming-of-age drama film based on the novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton. The movie follows the story of Bryon Douglas, a troubled teenager growing up in a working-class neighborhood.

Bryon's best friend and older brother-figure is Mark Jennings, with whom he has shared a close bond for years. They have been through many ups and downs together, navigating their challenging environment and surviving on their own terms. However, as they enter adolescence, their lives begin to take different paths.

When Mark starts dating a new girlfriend named Cathy Carlson, it becomes apparent that he is slowly drifting away from Bryon. Feeling abandoned and left out, Bryon starts to feel increasingly alienated from both Mark and their shared world.

With his only connection to society seemingly slipping away, Bryon begins to search for a new sense of belonging. Unfortunately, he falls into a world of drugs and delinquency, seeking solace and acceptance from a different group of companions. As the lines blur between right and wrong, Bryon gets entangled in criminal activities and starts having run-ins with the police.

Through this downward spiral, Mark attempts to steer Bryon back onto the right path, urging him to realize the consequences of his choices. Their relationship becomes strained as Mark confronts Bryon about his dangerous lifestyle, ultimately questioning the loyalty that once held them together.

As the movie progresses, Bryon must come to terms with his actions and face the consequences of his involvement with drugs and law enforcement. Through this journey, he is forced to confront his own identity and examine the effects of his decisions on himself and those he cares about.

That Was Then... This Is Now delves into themes of personal growth, friendship, alienation, and the challenges of adolescence. It aims to portray the harsh realities faced by teenagers living on the fringes of society, highlighting the importance of positive role models and the impact of the choices one makes.
