Doug Varney is a middle-aged pharmacist who leads a monotonous and predictable life in a small town. He is married to Kara, a controlling and unsatisfied woman, and they have a young son.

Despite his seemingly ideal life, Doug feels trapped and unfulfilled. However, everything changes when he encounters Elizabeth, a beautiful and seductive trophy wife who also feels trapped in her loveless marriage. Elizabeth frequents Doug's pharmacy and soon begins to flirt with him.

Doug initially resists her advances, but the temptation becomes too strong to resist. He eventually gives in and starts an affair with Elizabeth. Their affair becomes increasingly dangerous and exciting as they engage in reckless behavior, experimenting with drugs, alcohol, and passionate sexual encounters.

As Doug becomes more entangled in Elizabeth's world, he begins to neglect his responsibilities at the pharmacy and his family. He starts using the drugs he dispenses, becoming addicted to the newfound excitement in his life. The affair takes a dark turn when Elizabeth proposes they get rid of her husband to be together.

With their lives spinning out of control, Doug and Elizabeth hatch a plan to murder her husband. As they scheme and execute their plan, they believe they are smart enough to get away with the crime undetected.

However, their reckless actions catch the attention of local law enforcement, who view Doug as an upstanding member of the community. Detective Noah, suspicious of Doug's sudden change in behavior, begins investigating him and soon uncovers the affair.

As the walls close in on Doug, he must choose between saving himself or protecting Elizabeth, whom he has fallen deeply in love with. The choices he makes will ultimately determine the fate of their relationship and the consequences they must face.
