In the movie Vantage Point, the attempted assassination of the American president during a global anti-terrorism summit is portrayed from various characters' perspectives, each shedding light on a different aspect of the event.

The film begins with the President of the United States, portrayed by actor William Hurt, arriving at the summit in Salamanca, Spain. However, as he is about to address the crowd, shots are fired, causing chaos and panic. Moments later, a bomb hidden in a briefcase detonates, causing widespread destruction.

From this point, the movie structures the narrative by rewinding the story and retelling it from different vantage points. These perspectives include the Secret Service agents, Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox), television news director Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver), tourist Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), Spanish police officer Enrique (Eduardo Noriega), and President Ashton's apparent informant, Javier (Édgar Ramírez).

With each retelling, crucial details are revealed, allowing the audience to piece together the truth behind the assassination attempt. As the perspectives merge, it becomes apparent that there is more to the event than meets the eye.

Eventually, it is uncovered that a power-hungry politician, Senator Charles Thompson (played by actor William Hurt in a dual role), has orchestrated the attack as part of a conspiracy to assume the presidency himself. Thompson had planned the assassination to create an opportunity to eliminate President Ashton and set himself up as a national hero.

Through the combined efforts of Thomas Barnes, Kent Taylor, and President Ashton's aide, Anna (played by Zoë Saldaña), the true culprit is identified. They unravel the conspiracy, leading to a climactic confrontation with Senator Thompson, who is ultimately exposed and stopped from achieving his goal.

In the end, the President survives, and the true heroism of those involved in stopping the conspiracy is recognized. The film concludes with the restored faith in the American political system, emphasizing the strength of democracy and the courage of those dedicated to protecting it.
