"A Separation" is an Iranian drama film directed by Asghar Farhadi. The story revolves around a middle-class couple, Nader and Simin, who are married and have an 11-year-old daughter named Termeh.

Simin wants to leave Iran with Termeh and move abroad to provide a better future for their daughter. On the other hand, Nader is unwilling to leave his country and his elderly father, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Nader believes that their daughter can have a good life in Iran and argues that leaving would be abandoning their responsibilities towards their family.

Unable to reach a consensus, Simin files for a divorce to obtain a visa for Termeh to leave the country. However, the court refuses to grant their divorce, leading Simin to temporarily move out and stay with her mother.

Nader hires a young, lower-class woman named Razieh to take care of his father while he and Termeh are at work and school respectively. However, Nader and Razieh's interaction becomes increasingly tense as Razieh struggles to provide proper care for the elderly man. One day, Nader returns home to find his father alone and tied to the bed, accusing Razieh of negligence.

A heated argument ensues between Nader and Razieh, resulting in physical altercations. Razieh later suffers a miscarriage, and believing Nader is responsible, she files a lawsuit against him for causing her miscarriage. As the trial progresses, an intricate web of lies, secrets, and conflicted memories unfold, skewing the truth and making it difficult to ascertain who is truly at fault.

The film deftly explores themes of truth, justice, social class, morality, and the complexities of personal relationships. It depicts the struggles faced by the characters as they navigate through their fractured lives and confront the consequences of their choices.

As the tension rises and their lives become entangled in a web of lies and legal procedures, the audience is left to question where the truth lies and what justice truly means in such a complex situation.
