In the movie "Walker," based on real events, William Walker, an American lawyer and adventurer portrayed by actor Ed Harris, leads a group of mercenaries known as the Walker Expedition to Nicaragua in the mid-1800s. The main objective of this group is to overthrow the existing Nicaraguan government and establish a new regime under Walker's control.

The story begins with Walker arriving in Nicaragua, where he gains the support of some local conservative factions who believe that their country needs a firm hand to stabilize the region. With their assistance, Walker quickly begins to gain power and influence.

As Walker gains control over various regions in Nicaragua, he institutes a series of reforms that initially seem promising, such as providing legal rights to indigenous populations and offering economic incentives for foreign investors. However, as his power increases, Walker's true ambitions become apparent.

Walker's actions start to draw international attention and condemnation. The United States, under President Franklin Pierce's administration, tacitly supports Walker's efforts, viewing it as a way to further U.S. interests in Central America. However, other nations, particularly neighboring countries like Costa Rica and Honduras, see Walker's actions as a threat to their sovereignty.

As the situation becomes more volatile, Walker faces resistance from opposition forces led by indigenous Nicaraguan leaders and their allies, known as the Filibusteros. They reject Walker's attempts to impose American control and fight back to defend their own government.

As the conflict escalates, Walker and his mercenaries begin to lose control. International pressure mounts against him, and he faces significant challenges on the ground. Eventually, the opposition forces, bolstered by support from neighboring nations and internal revolts, launch a full-scale assault against Walker and his mercenary corps.

In the climax of the movie, Walker's forces are ultimately defeated, and he is captured by the opposition. He is then handed over to the Honduran government, who quickly tries and sentences him to death for his actions.

The film explores themes of imperialism, manifest destiny, and the consequences of meddling in foreign affairs. It provides a critical perspective on Walker's ambitions and the destructive impact of his intervention in Nicaragua's political landscape.
