In ancient China, the Emperor calls upon every family to provide one man to fight against the invading forces of the Huns. However, Mulan's father, Fa Zhou, is too old and weak to join the army, so Mulan decides to take his place to protect him and preserve their honor. Disguising herself as a man, she cuts her hair and steals her father's armor and sword.

Under the alter ego of "Ping," Mulan joins the army and goes through rigorous training alongside soldiers, including Captain Li Shang. Despite her initial struggles and clumsiness, Mulan gradually gains respect from her fellow recruits and proves her capabilities. The comical dragon named Mushu and a wise-cracking cricket named Cri-Kee, who were sent by Mulan's ancestors to protect her, assist her in her journey.

As the army sets out to fight the Huns, Mulan's true identity is revealed when her comrades discover that she is a woman. Out of fear and prejudice, Captain Li Shang leaves her behind in the mountains, unaware that the Huns, led by the ruthless Shan Yu, are heading towards the Imperial City to attack the Emperor.

Undeterred, Mulan, Mushu, and Cri-Kee work together to warn and rescue the Emperor and the city from the impending danger. They create a plan to disguise themselves as concubines and infiltrate the palace, but Shan Yu discovers their true identity. However, Mulan uses her intelligence, bravery, and resourcefulness to outwit Shan Yu and his army.

With the help of her friends and comrades, Mulan defeats Shan Yu and saves the Emperor. Her heroic actions earn her the respect and gratitude of all whom she has encountered. She is honored for her bravery by the Emperor himself and returns home to her family, where she is finally accepted for who she is.

The story of Mulan highlights themes of bravery, identity, and the breaking of gender stereotypes. It showcases the importance of inner strength, determination, and family honor.
