In the movie Herbie Rides Again, an old lady named Mrs. Steinmetz (played by Helen Hayes) is living in her old Victorian house, which is one of the few remaining buildings in the neighborhood. A corrupt developer named Alonzo Hawk (played by Keenan Wynn) wants to demolish the old house to make way for a gigantic skyscraper.

Mrs. Steinmetz is determined to protect her home and stand up against Hawk's plans, but with her age and limited resources, she needs some help. That's when Herbie, the lovable and mischievous white Volkswagen Beetle, comes into the picture.

Herbie, with his unique personality and abilities, teams up with Mrs. Steinmetz, her nephew, Willoughby Whitfield (played by Ken Berry), and his girlfriend, Nicole Harris (played by Stefanie Powers). Together, they devise a plan to save the house and stop Alonzo Hawk.

Herbie, being a sentient car capable of independent action, becomes Mrs. Steinmetz's loyal companion. He uses his special abilities, such as his rapid acceleration, precise driving skills, and even his ability to drive on walls, to outwit Hawk and his henchmen.

Throughout the movie, Herbie gets involved in hilarious and exciting situations, outmaneuvering Hawk's attempts to destroy the house and evading capture. Along the way, he also manages to find love in another Volkswagen Beetle named Giselle.

As Hawk's plans escalate, resorting to more drastic measures to get rid of Herbie and Mrs. Steinmetz, their determination and resourcefulness grow stronger. With the help of a few friends and the local community, they organize a protest, drawing attention to the historical importance of the house and the importance of preserving the neighborhood's authenticity.

The movie culminates in a thrilling and action-packed finale, where Herbie and his friends, both human and car, confront Alonzo Hawk, exposing his corrupt practices and saving Mrs. Steinmetz's house from destruction. In the end, justice is served, and the beloved Volkswagen Beetle continues to be a symbol of freedom and the triumph of the underdog.
