Plot Details:
The recently divorced journalist, Sarah Thompson, receives a tip about a series of gruesome murders targeting sex workers in Mashhad, Iran. Intrigued by the possibility of unearthing a captivating story, she decides to delve deeper into the underbelly of the city and investigate the so-called "Spider Killer."
Arriving in Mashhad under the guise of a tourist, Sarah quickly realizes that the local authorities are either incapable or unwilling to solve the brutal crimes. Determined to expose the truth, she begins to navigate the dark and dangerous territories of the city, establishing contacts with local sex workers, residents, and even the grieving families of the victims.
As Sarah digs deeper, she discovers that the "Spider Killer" is not just a nickname—it is derived from the killer's signature: leaving tarantulas or their webs at the crime scenes. Fascinated by the complex psychology of the murderer, Sarah starts to develop an unhealthy fixation on the case, as she sees in it a metaphorical battle between righteousness and depravity.
While investigating, Sarah begins to believe that the "Spider Killer" sees himself as a vigilante, cleansing the streets of sinners, particularly those he believes corrupt the holy city. She uncovers a secret society of religious extremists who share his views, providing him with support and encouragement while offering him new victims to target.
As Sarah's pursuit intensifies, she becomes increasingly entwined in the lives of the sex workers and their struggles, forming unlikely alliances and friendships. But her immersion in this dangerous world comes at a significant cost; she becomes a target herself, caught in a deadly game with the "Spider Killer" and his enablers.
With each murder, the pressure on Sarah mounts, both from the killer and the consequences of her relentless investigation. As she gets closer to unmasking the identity of the deranged murderer, Sarah must confront her own demons and face the challenging ethical dilemma of whether she should continue her quest for justice at any cost or prioritize her personal safety.
The gripping climax of the movie sees Sarah finally meeting the "Spider Killer" face-to-face, resulting in a suspenseful and heart-pounding confrontation. In the end, by unmasking the killer and exposing the extremist society that supported him, Sarah hopes to bring justice to the victims and shed light on the dark underbelly of Mashhad. However, she discovers that the aftermath is complicated and raises moral questions that linger long after the credits roll.
