As Regina Lampert continues to unravel the mystery surrounding her husband's murder and the stolen money, she learns that her husband Charles had actually stolen the money from the other three World War II cronies. These cronies believe that Regina is in possession of the stolen quarter of a million dollars and begin to pursue her.

Regina seeks the help of Peter Joshua, the man she fell for on her skiing holiday, in order to protect herself and find answers. However, as their chase progresses, Peter's true identity becomes more uncertain. He reveals that he is not only known as Peter Joshua but also as Alexander Dyle, Adam Canfield, and several other names.

This leads Regina to suspect Peter of being involved in the theft or having ulterior motives. Nevertheless, she reluctantly continues to rely on him for help as they navigate through a web of deception and danger.

During their pursuit, Regina and Peter encounter a variety of characters who claim to know the whereabouts of the stolen money. These encounters often lead to new twists and turns in the plot, further complicating the already mysterious situation.

As the truth unfolds, it is revealed that Peter is an undercover agent working to expose Tex, Scobie, and Gideon. The stolen money actually belonged to the French Resistance during the war, and Charles had betrayed them by stealing it. Peter, along with a seductive widow named Sylvie, had been assigned to recover the stolen funds.

In a stunning climax, Regina discovers that Peter is actually the brother of Alexander Dyle, the man Charles had murdered. Seeking justice and revenge, he took on the various identities in order to uncover the truth and bring the culprits to justice.

With the assistance of Regina and a surprising ally, they confront the remaining cronies, leading to a final confrontation and resolution. In the end, the stolen money is returned to its rightful owners, and the truth behind the elaborate charade is revealed.
