Belle de Jour is a 1967 French drama film directed by Luis Buñuel. The story revolves around Séverine Serizy, a beautiful young woman living a seemingly perfect life as a housewife, married to Pierre Serizy, a successful doctor. However, despite her happy exterior, Séverine harbors secret masochistic fantasies that she is unable to fulfill in her mundane everyday life.

One day, Séverine's friend Henri, who is secretly in love with her, informs her about a high-class brothel run by Madame Anais. Intrigued by the idea of indulging in her hidden desires, Séverine becomes fascinated with the notion and decides to start working there during the day.

Under the alias "Belle de Jour," Séverine begins her double life as a prostitute. At the brothel, she encounters various clients with different sexual desires. Although initially hesitant, she soon becomes more at ease with her newfound role and begins exploring her sexuality, granting her clients their fantasies within elegant and discreet settings.

Meanwhile, back in her normal life, Pierre grows concerned about the sudden changes in Séverine's behavior. He suspects that she might be having an affair but remains unaware of her secret life as Belle de Jour. Séverine's conflicting worlds start to intertwine when one of her clients, a young gangster named Marcel, becomes possessive and starts following her outside the brothel.

As the tension rises, Séverine tries to distance herself from Marcel and resume her normal life, but she finds it increasingly difficult to escape the consequences of her choices. The film delves into Séverine's internal struggle between her desires, societal expectations, and the consequences of indulging in her fantasies.

Belle de Jour is known for its surreal and dreamlike storytelling style, incorporating elements of fantasy and reality, as well as exploring themes of sexual repression, desire, and the duality of human nature. The film offers a complex and psychological portrayal of a woman's journey into her own hidden desires and the consequences of pursuing and reconciling them with the norms of her society.
