Drama   United States of America

After the crash-landing, Whip Whitaker is hailed as a hero for saving many lives. However, as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigates the accident, they discover that Whip had alcohol in his system during the flight. This threatens his professional career as well as potential legal consequences.

Whip's union representative, Charlie Anderson, recommends the services of high-profile lawyer Hugh Lang to handle his case. While awaiting the investigation, Whip checks into a substance abuse rehabilitation center. There, he meets fellow addict Nicole, with whom he develops a romantic relationship. Despite his efforts to stay clean, Whip struggles with his addiction and is drawn back into his old habits.

As the investigation progresses, doubts emerge regarding the mechanical failure as the sole cause of the crash, and Whip becomes the focus of the attention. During the hearing, Hugh argues that the plane's mechanical failure should be deemed the primary cause, rather than Whip being intoxicated. However, the NTSB uncovers evidence of Whip's troubling pattern of alcohol and drug abuse, weakening his defense.

Whip's personal life also begins to crumble. His ex-wife Deana expresses concern for their son, and his relationship with Nicole deteriorates due to his inability to stay sober. Feeling overwhelmed, Whip briefly turns to heroin to escape his troubles.

Despite the mounting pressure, Whip maintains his innocence, claiming he was impaired due to prescription drugs given to him after the crash. The case reaches its climax in a dramatic courtroom scene. Hugh manages to convince the jury that Whip acted heroically and that the mechanical failure was the primary cause of the accident. Whip is acquitted of the most serious charges but is nevertheless still found guilty of flying the plane while under the influence of alcohol.

In the aftermath, Whip finally accepts responsibility for his addiction and confesses to Charlie that he is an alcoholic. In an act of redemption and to honor the lives lost in the crash, Whip attends an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. The film ends with Whip reflecting on his experiences and acknowledging the challenging road to recovery that lies ahead.
