"Brubaker" is a 1980 drama film based on a true story, directed by Stuart Rosenberg. The film stars Robert Redford as Henry Brubaker, a new warden appointed to a small prison farm in Arkansas.

Henry Brubaker, being the new warden, arrives at Wakefield State Penitentiary under the guise of an inmate. By doing so, he plans to observe the prison conditions and the pervasive corruption without anyone knowing his true identity. He witnesses the brutality, violence, and inhumane treatment of prisoners, as well as the involvement of prison officials in various illegal activities.

After revealing himself as the new warden, Brubaker starts implementing significant reforms and changes to the prison system. He aims to clean up the corruption and transform the prison into a place of rehabilitation and justice. Brubaker institutes new policies, including improving the living conditions, tackling widespread corruption among the staff, enforcing fair treatment of prisoners, introducing educational and vocational programs, and ending the use of forced labor.

As Brubaker digs deeper into the system, he discovers several shocking secrets. He uncovers evidence of inmates being buried in unmarked graves within the prison's grounds, showcasing a callous disregard for human life. Additionally, he learns about the misappropriation of funds meant for prisoner welfare and the illegal deals made by the prison management with corrupt local politicians.

As he tries to dismantle the corruption, Brubaker faces strong resistance and opposition from the prison staff, including supervisors and guards benefiting from the status quo. Some staff members plot against Brubaker, attempting to get him disqualified by framing him for drug possession and assaulting him physically.

Despite the challenges and dangers, Brubaker perseveres, gaining the support of some dedicated staff members and a few prisoners who appreciate his efforts. Together, they gather evidence and expose the systematic corruption and mistreatment, ultimately leading to an investigation by state officials.

"Brubaker" showcases the enduring spirit of one man determined to fight against the entrenched corruption within the prison system. It highlights the struggle for institutional change and the importance of justice and humane treatment for all individuals, even within the confines of a correctional facility.
