In the movie Dark Blue World, Lt. Franta Slama, a seasoned pilot in the Czech Air Force, is assigned to train a promising young flier named Karel Vojtisek. As they spend more time together, they develop a strong bond of friendship.

However, their lives take a drastic turn when Nazi Germany invades Czechoslovakia in 1939. Lt. Slama and Karel refuse to accept the authority of their new leaders and decide to escape to England, where they join other Czech exiles in the Royal Air Force (RAF).

During one of their missions over England, Karel's plane crashes, and he finds himself near a farmhouse. It is there that he meets Susan, a young woman whose husband is serving in the Navy. Karel is immediately drawn to Susan, and they embark on a passionate affair.

However, over time, Susan realizes that she is more attracted to Lt. Slama's sophistication and worldly nature. She ends her relationship with Karel and begins a new one with Franta. This romantic rivalry puts a strain on the friendship between Franta and Karel.

Amidst their personal struggles, Franta and Karel must continue to fight as pilots in the RAF against the German forces. The war takes a toll on both of them, physically and emotionally, as they witness the horrors of combat.

Throughout the film, Dark Blue World explores the complexities of wartime relationships, the sacrifices made by individuals, and the enduring bonds of friendship. It delves into themes of loyalty, love, and the impact of war on personal lives.
