As the McKays settle into their new country home, they face various comedic situations and challenges. Larry, a drama critic for a newspaper, still travels to New York frequently for work, leaving Kay to manage the household and their lively four sons. While Kay embraces her role as a housewife and becomes involved in the local community, she starts to feel neglected by Larry's constant absence and his flirtatious nature.

One day, Larry attends a party in New York and mentions a flirtatious encounter with the famous Broadway star, Deborah Vaughn, to his friend, Alfred. Word quickly gets back to Kay, and she begins to suspect that Larry might be unfaithful. Feeling hurt and neglected, Kay tries to confront Larry about his behavior, but he dismisses her concerns as mere misunderstandings.

To add to the chaos, the McKays' mischievous dog, Ladadog, continually wreaks havoc, causing all sorts of comedic mishaps in the house and the neighborhood. Despite the daily challenges, Kay finds solace in her close-knit group of friends and neighbors, who support her and provide comic relief throughout the movie.

As time goes on, Larry's flirtations and absences become more frequent, straining his relationship with Kay further. In an attempt to reignite the spark in their marriage, Kay plans a romantic dinner for Larry and decorates the house with daisies. However, he arrives home late after another flirtatious encounter with Deborah Vaughn, deeply disappointing Kay.

Finally, Kay reaches her breaking point and decides to take matters into her own hands. She travels to New York with a newspaper article exposing Larry's behavior and confronts him publicly during a performance. In the midst of chaos, Larry realizes the impact of his actions and the hurt he has caused Kay.

In the end, Larry realizes the importance of his family and reassesses his priorities. He makes a heartfelt apology to Kay and vows to change his ways. The movie concludes with the entire McKay family reunited, embracing their new country life, and finding happiness in their own unique way.
