In Battle Beyond the Stars, the young farmer, Shad, seeks out the help of various mercenaries from different planets to save his peaceful home planet, Akir, from being annihilated by the tyrannical Sador and his army of invaders called the Malmori.
Shad enlists the help of a motley crew, including the Nanelia, the daughter of a murdered scientist, Gelt, a disillusioned assassin, Saint-Exmin, a Valkyrie warrior, and Nestor, a hive-mind creature. Together, they set out to find help from other planets and allies to aid in their defense against Sador's forces.
As they travel through space, they encounter various challenges and obstacles, including battles with Sador's minions and moral dilemmas as they struggle to decide whether to stand and fight or flee to safety.
