In the movie Wetherby, the central character is Jean Travers, an introverted and seemingly lonely woman living in the quiet suburb of Wetherby. She lives an isolated life, teaching English to foreign students and spending her evenings alone.

One day, Jean invites a group of students, as well as a few neighbors, to her house for a small dinner party. Among the attendees is a mysterious young man named John Morgan, who has recently moved to Wetherby. Throughout the evening, John remains quiet and enigmatic, capturing the attention of the other guests as they try to decipher his past and intentions.

However, the following day, news of John's sudden and tragic death shocks the community. As the police investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, it becomes apparent that there is more to John's story than meets the eye.

As the film progresses, the audience is introduced to various residents of Wetherby who become entangled in the aftermath of John's death.
