In the movie "My Boss, My Hero," the successful young mobster, Gye Do-shik, has managed to establish his dominance in the trendy area of Myeongdong in Seoul. However, despite his success in the criminal world, he lacks formal education and is considered ignorant by his gang members.

One day, while attempting to purchase a type of liquor called dongdongju, Gye Do-shik mistakes the name for the renowned Korean poet, Yun Tong-ju. Unaware of his mistake, he openly discusses his plan to buy and consume Yun Tong-ju, leading his gang members to believe that he is referring to a rare and expensive alcohol brand. Realizing their boss's embarrassing mistake, the gang decides to take matters into their own hands.

Feeling that their leader's ignorance is detrimental to their criminal activities and reputation, the gang members collect money to hire a tutor and send Gye Do-shik back to high school. They believe that a proper education can help him gain knowledge and sophistication, eventually transforming him into a respected boss.

Reluctantly, Gye Do-shik agrees to attend high school again but conceals his true identity as a mobster. He adopts a new name, Gi-joon, and enrolls as a transfer student. However, his time in school is far from smooth sailing. Gye Do-shik finds himself encountering various challenges, such as conflicts with classmates, academic struggles, and the pressure to hide his true nature.

Throughout his journey, Gye Do-shik starts forming meaningful relationships with his fellow students, including a love interest named Min-joo. These interactions provide him with valuable life lessons and help him understand the values of friendship, loyalty, and personal growth.

Meanwhile, Gye Do-shik's gang members, who initially expected him to fail in the school environment, witness his transformation and newfound personal development. As they observe his determination to succeed and his loyalty towards his friends, they begin to question their own convictions and priorities as criminal gang members.

The plot of "My Boss, My Hero" revolves around Gye Do-shik's double life as a mobster-turned-student, and how his experiences in both worlds lead to personal growth and self-discovery for him and his gang members. The movie combines elements of humor, action, and heartwarming moments as it explores themes of redemption, second chances, and the importance of education and personal development.
