"The Wrong Man" is a gripping true story based on the life of Christopher Emmanuel "Manny" Balestrero, a hardworking and honest family man. Set in the early 1950s, the film takes place in Queens, New York.

Manny Balestrero, played by Henry Fonda, works as a bass player at the Stork Club, struggling to make ends meet for his wife, Rose, and their two children. One day, he decides to borrow some money against Rose's insurance policy to pay for her dental work. As he enters an insurance office, the employees mistakenly identify him as the man who recently committed armed robberies at several other offices.

Manny is unaware of the mix-up until he goes back to the Stork Club, where he is promptly arrested and taken into custody. Despite his protests of innocence, the evidence seems to stack against him. His fingerprints match those left at the crime scenes, and some witnesses identify him as the robber. Manny's previous photo taken for his musician's union card conveniently resembles the wanted criminal.

As the legal process unfolds, Manny is shocked to see how his life spirals out of control. He is subjected to a public trial, where his lawyer tries to prove his innocence. The film masterfully portrays Manny's sense of confusion, despair, and frustration as he navigates the complex legal system, witnessing the impact of his wrongful arrest on his wife and children.

Rose, played by Vera Miles, stands unwaveringly by her husband's side, refusing to believe that he could have committed these crimes. However, the constant pressure and societal alienation begin to take a toll on their relationship. The couple faces financial strain, emotional turmoil, and a loss of faith in the justice system.

Eventually, through a stroke of luck, the real robber is apprehended, and it is discovered that he closely resembles Manny. The truth is uncovered, and Manny is exonerated, but the damage done is irreversible.

"The Wrong Man" is a gripping and emotional portrayal of a man swept up in a nightmarish case of mistaken identity. The film delves into the themes of justice, prejudice, and the effects of wrongful accusation on an innocent person's life. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the movie serves as a thought-provoking examination of the flaws within the criminal justice system and the devastating consequences it can have on people's lives.
