As middle school comes to an end, Erin, a young girl who is open about her sexuality, finds solace in her friendship with Liz, who shares her love for comics and is a talented track star. However, their friendship faces a test when Liz is offered admission to a prestigious private high school.
Erin begins to feel the pressure of going into high school without her best friend by her side. Desperate to fit in and escape the social outcast label, she becomes infatuated with Sydni, a new girl at their school who used to be a child star. Believing that dating Sydni and gaining popularity will save her from certain social doom, Erin concocts a plan to ask Sydni to the big dance.
