In the film "O," Odin James (Mekhi Phifer) is not only the star basketball player but also the only black student at the prestigious Palmetto Grove Academy. Despite facing racial barriers, Odin is highly respected and admired by everyone, including his coach (Martin Sheen) and the beautiful daughter of the school's Dean, Desi (Julia Stiles).

However, Odin's troubled friend Hugo Goulding (Josh Hartnett), who happens to be the coach's son, is consumed by jealousy and bitterness. He resents his father's favoritism towards Odin both on and off the basketball court. Determined to destroy Odin's life, Hugo begins to manipulate events in a diabolical scheme to sow the seeds of mistrust between Odin and Desi.

Hugo's plan involves romantic deception and manipulation. He uses his own girlfriend, Emily (Rain Phoenix), to seduce Odin and make it appear as though he is cheating on Desi. As the betrayal intensifies, Odin starts to question the loyalty and fidelity of those closest to him. The web of lies and deceit begins to unravel, leading to tragic consequences for all involved.

As Hugo's plot unfolds, the once peaceful and harmonious academy becomes a breeding ground for jealousy, suspicion, and ultimately violence. The tension escalates to a point where the lives of the characters are on the line. The movie explores themes of race, jealousy, and the destructive power of lies and manipulation.

Ultimately, "O" delves into the dark side of human nature, showcasing how envy and deceit can lead to the downfall of relationships and individuals.
