In the movie Just Before I Go, Ted Morgan, played by actor Seann William Scott, finds himself at a low point in life after his wife leaves him. Feeling like he has nothing left to live for, Ted decides to return to his hometown and confront the people he holds responsible for his current state of emptiness.

As Ted arrives back in his hometown, his initial plan is to confront and withdraw from his dysfunctional family, seeking closure and some semblance of peace. However, life has other plans for him.

Ted soon realizes that his family, including his judgmental brother Lucky (played by actor Garret Dillahunt) and emotionally distant mother Kathleen (played by actress Kate Walsh), are caught up in their own chaotic lives. Instead of finding the closure and solitude he seeks, Ted is unexpectedly drawn into their intricate dramas.
