In shock, she decides to conceal his death until after the Christmas holiday. Finding a note from her late boyfriend instructing her to send his novel to publishers, Morvern removes his name from the work and submits it as her own, hoping to claim his success and make a fresh start.

Using the money left for the burial, Morvern embarks on a spontaneous trip with her best friend Lanna, who is unaware of the death. They head to a Spanish resort town, taking drugs and partying excessively. Morvern embraces a carefree existence and seems unbothered by the uncertainty of her actions.

As Morvern continues her journey, she starts receiving accolades for the novel she submitted. Publishers show interest, and she even secures a publishing deal. Morvern's newfound success feeds her desire to escape her mundane life, allowing her to explore new avenues and fulfill her dreams.

Throughout her journey, Morvern remains emotionally detached, never sharing the truth about what happened to her boyfriend. She maintains a mysterious aura, often avoiding questions about her personal life. However, the weight of her actions begins to catch up with her as she struggles with guilt and the fear of being exposed.

In the final act of the film, Morvern returns to her hometown for her boyfriend's funeral. At this point, the truth about his suicide and the novel's authorship come to light, causing tension and confusion among the mourners and publishers. Morvern faces the consequences of her choices, reminding her that reinventing one's life comes with a price.

As the film concludes, Morvern reflects on the whirlwind she experienced and the choices she made while grappling with her newfound success and the guilt that accompanies it.
