"The Divide" is a post-apocalyptic psychological thriller that delves into the dark and gruesome depths of human nature in the face of extreme circumstances. The movie follows a group of tenants living in a New York City apartment building who find themselves trapped in the basement after a devastating nuclear attack.

As their survival instincts kick in, tensions rise, and fear begins to erode the group's cohesiveness. The movie explores the profound impact of fear, isolation, and the struggle for power on the survivors' psyche as they are forced to endure unimaginable horrors.

Led by the building superintendent Mickey (played by Michael Biehn), the survivors include Eva (Lauren German), Sam (Iván González), Adrien (Ashton Holmes), Bobby (Michael Eklund), Marilyn (Rosanna Arquette), and others. They quickly construct a makeshift shelter in the basement to protect themselves from the radioactive fallout and await rescue.

However, days turn into weeks, and rescue does not arrive. The limited supplies they had initially brought with them start running out, contributing to their growing desperation. The group's solidarity begins to crumble as hunger, thirst, and entrapment wear away at their sanity and morality.

As time goes on, tensions escalate, leading to a power struggle for control between Mickey and Josh (Milo Ventimiglia), another survivor who is increasingly disturbed by their dire circumstances. Josh's violent and manipulative nature creates a divide within the group, pushing them further into chaos.

Desperation drives some survivors to engage in heinous acts, while others desperately try to maintain their humanity. The movie delves into uncomfortable themes of rape, torture, and the limits some individuals will go to ensure their own survival.

Amid the mayhem and psychological decay, a mysterious group in hazmat suits eventually discovers the apartment building. Instead of rescuing the survivors, they subject them to sadistic experiments in an underground facility, further testing their resilience and challenging their will to survive.

"The Divide" is a deeply unsettling and unflinching exploration of the dark side of humanity when pushed to the brink. It serves as a haunting reminder of how fragile civilization can become in the face of catastrophe and raises thought-provoking questions about the lengths individuals are willing to go to survive.
