Dodsworth is a 1936 drama film adapted from Sinclair Lewis' novel of the same name. The story follows the life of Sam Dodsworth, a wealthy American automobile tycoon who decides to retire and embark on a grand European tour with his wife, Fran.

As Sam steps away from his successful career, he looks forward to a leisurely retirement and quality time with Fran. However, upon arriving in Europe, they quickly find themselves experiencing contrasting sets of values and priorities. While Sam embraces the new environments and cultures they encounter, Fran becomes increasingly obsessed with her social standing and appearance.

Amidst their diverging interests, Fran begins to feel neglected by Sam. In an effort to recapture her youth and the attention of younger suitors, Fran initiates a flirtatious relationship with a dapper playboy named Arnold Iselin. Sam, hurt and disillusioned by Fran's actions, finds solace in the company of Edith Cortright, an independent and intelligent widow.

As their marriage deteriorates, Sam and Fran grapple with the question of whether to continue their mutual unhappiness or pursue newfound happiness separately. Sam contemplates divorcing Fran, even as he grows closer to Edith during their travels. Meanwhile, Fran must confront the consequences of her superficial desires and decide what truly matters to her.

Dodsworth explores themes of marital discord, personal growth, and the search for meaning in life. It delves into the complexities of relationships, showcasing the contrast between Sam's authentic quest for fulfillment and Fran's misguided pursuit of societal validation.

In the end, Dodsworth presents an emotional and thought-provoking exploration of love, aging, and the transformative power of self-discovery, all through the lens of the Dodsworths' European journey.
