Luca is an animated coming-of-age film set in a picturesque coastal town on the Italian Riviera during the 1950s. The story revolves around two young sea creatures named Luca and Alberto, who seem like ordinary human boys when they are on dry land. However, their true forms are revealed when they come into contact with water.

Luca, a timid and curious creature, lives a sheltered life underwater and dreams of exploring the surface world. One day, he meets Alberto, a bold and adventurous sea monster, who introduces him to the wonders of the human world above. Together, they embark on a journey of excitement, freedom, and self-discovery.

The boys have numerous adventures in the vibrant and picturesque town, experiencing the thrill of riding scooters, indulging in gelato, and devouring mouth-watering pasta dishes. They meet a young girl named Giulia, who becomes an important friend to them, teaching them about life on land and encouraging their dreams. The trio forms a close bond as they participate in an annual local race across town, where humans and sea creatures are pitted against each other.

However, their idyllic summer paradise is threatened by the arrival of Ercole Visconti, a pompous and competitive teenager who exposes the true identities of Luca and Alberto. Determined to outcast them and exploit their secret, Ercole poses a great danger to their friendships and their supernatural abilities.

As Luca and Alberto's secret becomes increasingly at risk of being exposed, they must find the courage to stand up against discrimination and prejudice. With the support of Giulia and the townspeople who come to accept and appreciate them for who they are, the boys learn valuable lessons about friendship, acceptance, and embracing their true selves.

In their journey, Luca and Alberto not only have to face external threats but also confront their own fears and insecurities. They discover that their friendship and the strength of their bond grant them the power to overcome any obstacle, even when it seems insurmountable.

Luca is a heartwarming tale that celebrates the importance of friendship, self-acceptance, and embracing differences. Through their transformative summer, Luca, Alberto, and Giulia leave an indelible mark on their surroundings, teaching both humans and sea monsters alike the power of acceptance and the beauty of diversity.
