In the movie Cosmos, the two young men are named Witold and Fuchs. They decide to spend some time in a picturesque, isolated countryside house to seek tranquility and inspiration away from their daily lives. However, their peaceful retreat takes an eerie turn as they begin to experience a series of strange and unsettling occurrences.

As Witold and Fuchs explore the surrounding environment, they stumble upon various objects that appear to hold hidden meanings. Witold becomes particularly fixated on a bird found hanging from a wire and a strange sparrow that seems to be mocking him. The two friends also encounter a dysfunctional family residing nearby, which adds another layer of mystery and tension to their already troubled minds.

As the young men delve deeper into the apparent patterns and symbols they uncover, their obsession with finding sinister meanings intensifies. They become entangled in a web of paranoia and interpret every minor event as a sign or clue. Witold becomes enamored with the homeowner's daughter, Lena, and begins to question her role in the unfolding enigma, further blurring the line between reality and imagination.

As Witold's obsession grows, the boundary between his internal world and external reality becomes increasingly blurred. He loses himself in a maze of his own creation, suspecting everyone he encounters of being part of a greater conspiracy. Fuchs tries to ground his friend and bring him back to reason but finds himself getting drawn into the madness as well.

The movie gradually unravels the hidden layers of the characters' psyches, exploring themes of paranoia, obsession, and the nature of reality. Witold and Fuchs' quest for meaning and their descent into madness ultimately leads to a climactic and ambiguous ending, leaving the audience questioning the true nature of the events witnessed and the extent to which their interpretations were accurate.

Cosmos, directed by Andrzej Żuławski, is a thought-provoking psychological thriller that challenges the audience's perception of reality and leaves them pondering the mysteries of the human mind.
