Geography Club is a coming-of-age film that revolves around a group of high school students who form an unlikely club under the innocuous name "Geography Club." However, this club serves as a safe haven for teenagers who are secretly struggling with their sexual orientations, as they learn to embrace their true identities.

The story primarily focuses on Russell Middlebrook, a bright and affable high school student who feels isolated and conflicted about his homosexuality. Russell attends meetings of the Geography Club, where he meets other LGBTQ+ teenagers with their own stories and struggles. The club's members include Min, a strong-willed and fierce lesbian; Ike, a charismatic and athletic jock secretly dealing with his homosexuality; and Gunnar, a closeted bisexual boy.

As the plot progresses, Russell finds himself falling for Kevin, a popular soccer player with a reputation for being straight. Encouraged by the club members, Russell decides to explore his feelings for Kevin, which in turn leads to their clandestine relationship. However, they must carefully hide their affection from their peers, especially Kevin's girlfriend, who is completely unaware of his true desires.

Simultaneously, Min, Russell's best friend, starts an online relationship with a female classmate, Terese. However, when Terese insists on keeping their connection secret, Min begins to question whether she is ashamed of her own sexuality. This causes tension within the Geography Club, as Min struggles to accept her truth and be open about her relationship.

Meanwhile, Ike faces challenges in reconciling his fear of rejection from his friends, teammates, and his homophobic father. As the captain of the basketball team, he fears that engaging in a same-sex relationship might ruin his image and jeopardize his future.

Throughout the movie, the members of the Geography Club navigate the complexities of teenage life, juggling their studies, friendships, and romantic entanglements, all while trying to discover and accept their authentic selves. Their shared experiences create a sense of community and support, as they strive to find acceptance within themselves and their society.

Geography Club beautifully portrays the universal struggle of young individuals hiding their true identities and desperately longing to freely pursue their hearts' desires. With its heartfelt storytelling and relatable characters, the movie emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance, friendship, and the power of finding one's own voice in the midst of societal pressures.
