In "Chronically Metropolitan," Fenton Dillane, a young and talented writer, decides to leave his quiet and secluded life in rural Connecticut behind to return to the bustling streets of New York City. His unexpected arrival comes as a surprise to his family, including his estranged father, Christopher, a famous novelist himself, and his mother, Diane, a successful publisher.

As Fenton settles back into the city, he starts to reconnect with various characters from his past. One of these is Jessie, his ex-girlfriend who is now engaged to another man named Tim.
