In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, the story picks up after the events of the previous installment. Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, has emerged as a symbol of hope and resistance against the autocratic regime of the Capitol. The rebellion, led by President Alma Coin, believes that Katniss' popularity among the Districts can inspire a mass uprising against the oppressive Capitol.

Katniss, however, is initially hesitant to take on this role. She is still recovering from the traumatic events of the previous Hunger Games and is grappling with her own internal conflicts. Eventually, Katniss agrees to become the Mockingjay, a symbolic figurehead for the rebellion, under the condition that her captured ally, Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson, and other victors of the Games be rescued and pardoned.

As the Mockingjay, Katniss begins making propaganda videos to rally support and encourage the Districts to rise up against the Capitol. She witnesses the destruction and suffering caused by the Capitol's forces and becomes determined to bring an end to their oppressive rule.

Throughout the movie, Katniss faces numerous challenges, both external and internal. She deals with the pressure of being a symbol, the guilt of leaving behind her family and friends, and the complicated love triangle between her, Peeta, and her childhood friend Gale Hawthorne, played by Liam Hemsworth.

As the rebellion gains momentum, Katniss discovers that Peeta has been brainwashed and turned against her. This revelation further fuels her desire to bring down the Capitol and rescue him.

The movie ends with a cliffhanger, leaving audiences eager to see the resolution of the rebellion and the fate of Katniss, Peeta, and the other characters in the final installment, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
