Matt Franklin is struggling to find his place in the world and has been living in a state of arrested development since graduating from MIT. He works at a video store with his slacker friend Barry, while his twin sister Wendy is successful and pressuring him to get his act together.

When Tori, the girl Matt has had a crush on since high school, walks into the store and invites him to a Labor Day party at her house, Matt sees the opportunity to finally make a move and win her over. With Barry's encouragement, Matt decides to attend the party and pretend to be a successful banker in order to impress Tori.

However, things quickly spiral out of control as Matt's lies start catching up with him. He also discovers that Tori is in a relationship with a sleazy businessman, making it difficult for him to pursue her. As the night goes on, Matt's carefully constructed façade begins to crumble, leading to a series of misadventures and revelations.

Throughout the night, Matt comes to realize that he needs to stop living in the past and start embracing his future. With the help of Wendy and Barry, who both confront their own issues and insecurities, Matt learns to take control of his life and make decisions that will shape his future.

In the end, Matt finds the courage to be honest with Tori and himself, leading to a cathartic moment of self-discovery and growth. Take Me Home Tonight is a coming-of-age comedy that explores the challenges of transitioning into adulthood and the importance of being true to oneself.
