Wiener-Dog is a dark comedy film directed by Todd Solondz. The movie is divided into four separate stories, each connected by the presence of a dachshund that brings a unique impact on the lives of those it encounters.

The first story follows a young boy named Remi, who is dealing with various issues within his dysfunctional family. When his father brings home Wiener-Dog as a pet, the dog inadvertently teaches Remi life lessons, encouraging him to stand up for himself and find his own path.

In the second story, Wiener-Dog is taken in by Dawn Wiener, a compassionate veterinary technician who shares a name with a character from Solondz's previous film, "Welcome to the Dollhouse." Dawn has faced numerous challenges in life and finds solace in caring for the dachshund. She also reconnects with Brandon, a former classmate with whom she shares a unique bond. Together, they embark on a road trip, during which they pick up a group of depressed mariachis seeking a brighter future.

The third story revolves around Dave Schmerz, a floundering film professor who is struggling with personal and professional disappointments. Wiener-Dog becomes a source of inspiration for Dave as he attempts to navigate his stagnant life and rediscover his passion for filmmaking.

Finally, in the fourth story, Wiener-Dog becomes the pet of an embittered elderly woman named Nana and her lonely, needy granddaughter, Zoe. The dachshund acts as a catalyst for their desires for something more in life, pushing them to confront their realities and make significant changes.

Overall, Wiener-Dog explores themes of longing, emotional connection, and the transformative power of a pet, as the dachshund impacts the lives of each character it encounters, bringing comfort and joy in unexpected ways.
