In the movie "The House of the Devil," Samantha Hughes, a struggling college student, is desperately in need of money to pay her rent. She comes across a babysitting job flyer that offers a generous payment, and despite her friends' warnings, she decides to take on the job.
Samantha meets with the couple who posted the flyer, Mr. and Mrs. Ulman, who seem odd right from the start. They inform Samantha that the babysitting job is not for a child, but rather for an elderly woman named Mrs. Ulman's mother who lives in a remote, isolated house. Samantha, in need of the money, agrees to the arrangement.
Arriving at the house on the night of a full lunar eclipse, Samantha is left alone with Mrs. Ulman's mother, who is confined to an upstairs room. As the night progresses, strange occurrences begin to happen in the house. Samantha discovers a hidden room filled with satanic symbols and artifacts, raising her suspicions about the true nature of the Ulmans.
