In Sword of the Stranger, set in feudal Japan, young Kotaro is a naive and innocent boy who is pursued by a group of skilled Chinese assassins known as the Ming. Kotaro possesses a mysterious hidden power that the Ming clan wants to exploit. Fleeing for his life, he is accompanied by Tobimaru, his loyal dog.

During their escape, Kotaro and Tobimaru inadvertently cross paths with a nameless, wandering swordsman referred to as No Name. No Name is a skilled and formidable warrior who has chosen a path of isolation and anonymity. Reluctantly, he gets pulled into the chase when he saves Tobimaru from a poison attack, forming an unexpected bond with the little boy and his dog.

As the story progresses, No Name's tragic and violent past is gradually revealed. Haunted by his actions, he seeks redemption by helping Kotaro and Tobimaru reach their destination safely.
