"Hick" is a coming-of-age drama film released in 2011, directed by Derick Martini and based on the novel of the same name by Andrea Portes. The plot follows Luli McMullen, a 13-year-old girl living in a small Nebraska town, who decides to escape her volatile family life and explore the world on her own.

Luli packs her belongings, including a pistol that she received as a gift, and sets off hitchhiking on Route 66 toward Las Vegas. Along her journey, she encounters two unique and unpredictable individuals who will significantly impact her path.

The first person she meets is an unstable rebel named Eddie Kreezer. Eddie offers Luli a ride but soon reveals his violent tendencies and criminal background. Despite the danger, Luli feels a certain level of fascination and connection with Eddie, as he represents the excitement and recklessness she craves in her life.

Later on, Luli encounters a cocaine-snorting drifter named Glenda, who presents herself as an experienced and worldly figure. Unlike Eddie, Glenda initially appears more protective and nurturing towards Luli, taking her under her wing. However, it soon becomes apparent that Glenda has her own demons and is involved in a dysfunctional relationship with another man.

As Luli continues her journey, experiencing both the highs and lows of being on the road, she begins to question her choices and idealized perceptions of the people she meets. Along the way, she is exposed to various hardships and cruel realities, forcing her to confront the harshness of the world outside her small town.

Ultimately, Luli's encounters with Eddie and Glenda force her to grow up quickly and make impactful decisions about her own life and future. "Hick" explores themes of youth, innocence, rebellion, and the search for identity, painting a gritty and thought-provoking picture of a teenager's tumultuous journey to find her place in the world.
