"The Golden Boys" follows the story of Captain Zeb, Captain Perez, and Captain Jerry, three retired sea captains who live together in a dilapidated yet charming house on the coast of Cape Cod. Their lives consist of reminiscing about their seafaring days, indulging in various vices, and struggling to make ends meet.

Desperate to improve their financial situation, the three captains hatch a seemingly ingenious plan. They decide to place an advertisement in a Boston newspaper seeking a bride for one of them. The idea is that the chosen captain will marry the woman, who will bring her dowry and provide a comfortable life for all three of them. However, if one of them loses the coin toss to determine who must marry, they agree to accept their fate and become boarders in their own home, subservient to the "winning" captain and his new wife.

As fate would have it, a young Nantucket woman named Martha, intrigued by the ad, enthusiastically responds and arrives at their doorstep. However, when faced with the reality of their plan, doubts begin to creep into the hearts of the three captains. They realize that they might not be suited for marriage, having grown accustomed to their bachelor lifestyle and relishing their freedom.

The captains find themselves struggling with their desire for financial security versus the fear of losing their independence and individuality. As they spend time with Martha, they begin to form unexpected relationships with her, resulting in a complicated love triangle. Each captain must confront his fears and desires, deciding whether to pursue love or cling to their familiar ways.

"The Golden Boys" explores themes of love, aging, and the pursuit of happiness. It delves into the deep emotional conflicts of these three men, who find themselves torn between tradition, companionship, and the freedom they have grown accustomed to. Ultimately, they must come to terms with who they are and what they truly want as they navigate the complexities of love and marriage.
