In the movie The Visit, siblings Becca and Tyler are sent by their single mother to stay with their estranged grandparents, Nana and Pop Pop, on their remote farm in Pennsylvania. The purpose of the trip is for the children to bond with their grandparents whom they have never met before.

Excited for the adventure, Becca decides to document their entire visit on a camcorder as she aspires to become a filmmaker. Tyler, on the other hand, decides to just have fun and enjoy the time away from home.

However, as the days pass, Becca and Tyler begin to notice strange and unsettling behavior from Nana and Pop Pop. Their grandmother seems to suffer from mental instability, often exhibiting erratic and disturbing behavior. Their grandfather, on the other hand, displays unexplained aggression and peculiar nighttime behavior.

As the week progresses, the siblings' initial excitement turns into fear and suspicion, especially when they witness Nana banging her head against the walls and crawling around the house at night. Tyler also reveals that their mother's previous attempts to contact their grandparents have failed, adding to their concerns.

Despite their unsettling experiences, the siblings attempt to maintain a sense of normalcy and continue filming their visit. However, they soon uncover a dark secret hidden within the farmhouse. They discover that the couple they believed to be their grandparents are actually two escaped mental patients who murdered the real Nana and Pop Pop years ago.

With their chances of escape dwindling, Becca and Tyler must fight for their lives as they try to outsmart and survive the deranged impostors posing as their grandparents. They capture all their sinister discoveries on camera while trying to make it out of the farm alive.

In the climax of the movie, Becca and Tyler confront the impostors in a terrifying struggle for survival. The siblings manage to trap and incapacitate the impostors, finally escaping the farm. They are eventually picked up by the police, who confirm their captors' true identities.

The movie ends with Becca and Tyler returning home, traumatized by the horrific experience yet grateful to have survived. Becca continues to pursue her dream of becoming a filmmaker, using the footage from their visit to create a documentary-style film about their ordeal, warning others about the dangers that can lurk in unexpected places.
